The upper arms are prone to developing pockets of fat and loose skin. John R. Barbour, MD, FACS, is a triple board-certified plastic surgeon offering brachioplasty for men and women in the Washington, DC area, including Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria and surrounding communities in Virginia.
What is Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)?
An arm lift is a cosmetic procedure that focuses on the upper arm area. Accumulated fat and loose skin create an aged appearance. Men and women may use clothing to hide their upper arms when diet and exercise fail to tone the upper arm area. Brachioplasty improves the upper arms by removing excess skin and fat.
What are the Benefits of an Arm Lift?
- Improves contours of the arm between the elbow and shoulder
- Improves confidence when wearing sleeveless and short-sleeved clothing
- Helps men and women feel more confident and comfortable
What is the Procedure for Brachioplasty?
Brachioplasty may be performed under general anesthesia. The incision begins inside the elbow and extends to the armpit area. Dr. Barbour removes areas of fat via liposuction or another technique. After the fat is removed, he pulls the skin taut to create a natural contour, and the excess skin is trimmed.
What Should I Expect After an Arm Lift?
Healing after an arm lift may take several weeks. Your arms may be wrapped with a compression bandage to reduce swelling. You will need to avoid activities that require the use of your arms, so we recommend you arrange for someone to stay with you.
The scar from a brachioplasty procedure is extensive, but the position inside the arm makes the scar less obvious. The scar fades over the course of a year but will not disappear completely.
Is the Cost of Brachioplasty Covered by Insurance?
An arm lift is elective, so the cost is not covered by medical insurance. We provide an estimated cost after your consultation. For your convenience, Barbour Plastic Surgery offers financing options.
